Comments That Made Us Laugh

Friday, March 9th, 2012

We receive lots lovely comments from our customers thanking us for our service or letting us know what they think about our products. From time to time we get some that really make us laugh so we thought we’d share a few of the best with you…

Bliss Apron

“The apron was sent very quickly and she loved it. Her comments were “it’s actually the nicest apron I have ever seen. It’s so lovely in fact that it would make a great dress! (If it had a back of course- a bum hanging out is never a good look!)”.”

Oven gauntlets

“These (I ordered 2 so that neither hand needs to feel deprived or dangerously exposed) certainly provide the jolly splash of colour I hoped for. I like the individual glove rather than single strip mitts design, and indeed appreciate the long gauntlet, as opposed to glove length. Safe, fit for purpose, fulfilling all the padding Health and Safety etc., etc. of oven glovvery.”

Rooster Bag Saver

“It’s a thing for keeping plastic bags in and that’s exactly what it does, and I like chickens and it has chickens on it, happiness.”

PVC Bag

“I thought you had failed when Mattie the Postman went straight by earlier. Then there was a knock on the door & your parcel, as promised, was delivered by van within the two days.  Now Madam can have her birthday present in a lovely Ulster Weavers bag tomorrow.  Many thanks; you have just saved my life.”

It’s always good to know our products can spread so much joy (and relief in some cases!) so next time you buy something from our website, whether it be a linen tea towel or a cotton apron, drop us your comments and put a smile on our faces. You never know, if we receive enough comments we could make this a regular feature and spread the happiness!

Supermarkets Warned By David Cameron To Reduce Plastic Bags Usage

Monday, November 14th, 2011

The British Prime Minister has given an ultimatum to some of the biggest supermarkets to radically reduce their plastic bag usage.

David Cameron has issued a stark warning to stores to cut the number of plastic bags being handed out to shoppers- or to face a fee.

The amount of single-use carrier bags rose last year by 333million which is a 5% increase from 2010 and last month official figures showed that the numbers of bags had risen for the first time in five years. Last year, a staggering 6.4 billion single-use carriers were handed out in the UK.

Cameron has alerted the UK based supermarkets that unless the number of bags distributed significantly falls over the next 12 months, they could be either banned outright from giving them out or be forced by law to charge customers for them.

Shoppers do not have to hang their head in shame though because they can shop in style with our reusable canvas bags.

Environmental campaigners say that plastic bags take up to 1,000 years to degrade and are only used for on average 20 minutes. They cause serious harm to marine animals and birds and on average 70 bags are littered on the coastline every mile.

With Ulster weavers delectable ranges of packable and PVC bags, you can fit all the shopping into one bag as well as look fashionable.

It is reported that shoppers in Wales at checkouts, supermarkets and small village shops must hand over 5p for carrier bags with the proceeds going to good causes and any firm that flouts the law faces a massive £5,000 fine.

And in the Republic of Ireland they have seen a 90% improvement when they started charging consumers 16p for each plastic bag in 2002.

So do your bit to reduce your carbon footprint and purchase one of our gorgeous cotton or vinyl bags today and take it with you when you next pop to the shops!

Top Tips For Trick Or Treating With Children

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Trick or treating is an absolute necessity this Halloween!

It is a customary practise that originates from the 1950s which involves children across the world dressing up in ghostly costumes and travelling from house to house in the neighbourhood, asking for sweets and candy.

Trick or treating is best taken place at night-time when it is dark; so many kids walk the streets with their parents for safety. But what are the top tips to having fun and being out of harm’s way this Halloween?

First and foremost, it is best for adults to accompany young children. Many homeowners can be less enthusiastic about opening their front doors and celebrating the spooky time of year; so chaperoning little ones is always the soundest.

Ulster Weavers also recommend families to;

 - Wrap up warm and carry flashlights.

- Walk on the pavement and look both ways when crossing the road.

- When being mischievous on unsuspected houses, avoid hiding behind cars.

- Try not to walk across people’s gardens or driveways.

- When homeowners open the door, say thank you after being given the treats and put them in your sturdy canvas bags. Remain polite even if they don’t give you anything.

- Only approach houses that have lights on and bring the candy home to be checked by parents before eating any.

- Never go inside a stranger’s house and be wary of loose animals.

Make sure to follow these guidelines and why not use one of our vinyl bags to haul all the sweets around from door to door? They are extremely hard-wearing and are much more interesting than a boring plastic bag!

Check out our fantastic array of designs, styles and sizes and ensure your precious scrumptious candy is secure this Halloween in Ulster Weavers robust PVC bags.

Celebrate National Conifer Week With V&A Oak Tree Range

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

This week is National Conifer Week!

The British campaign is to highlight the advantages of the evergreen tree, so celebrate with Ulster Weavers V&A Oak Tree range.

Conifers come in a vast array of colours, shapes, sizes and habits and many of them change shade during the year.

The plant is a popular choice for the garden all year round because it doesn’t lose its leaves and it provides structure, background, texture and contrast to the backyard. They are the ideal choice for the amateur gardener looking for a low-maintenance but high impact plant.

Each conifer reportedly has its own unique personality and are easy to care for and long-lasting. So the campaign, which is driven by the Horticultural Trades Association British Conifer Group (ABCG), aims to encourage garden centres and homeowners to make a statement in their garden this October with the conifer.

Roger Ward, chairman of the ABCG said: “Conifers are a wonderful way of adding colour and shape to your outdoor space. Whilst being practical and useful they are also visually stunning and can transform a garden into something quite magnificent.

“Many conifers change colour throughout the year, so you can achieve fabulous splashes of orange, blue or purple in autumn or winter when other plants are dormant.”

Our Oak Tree range comes in a matching PVC Bags as well as Linen Tea Towel; so install some co-ordinating greenery into your home this winter with Ulster’s fabulous homeware.
