Today marks the official six month countdown until the Olympics!

The 2012 Games is kicking off from 27^th July- 12^th August and the Paralympic Games will start from 29^th August until 9^th September.

So there is no better time than now to get prepared and involved.

But what has been going on as of late to get ready for the summer event?

Well London 2012 has announced plans for schoolchildren across the UK to take part in sporting and cultural activities for World Sport Day on 25th June; and the first major exhibition of David Hockney’s works has been launched as part of a countdown event for the London 2012 Festival.

With only half a year to go, the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) has outlined the next stages in preparing for the biggest sporting event of the year.

The main structures on the Olympic Park have been completed by the Olympics Delivery Authority (ODA) and now London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has started to transform it into a fully-operational venue. It has been fitting out venues and stage testing and licensing events, and constructing 100,000 square feet of Games-time retail space.

Further work includes installing the ‘look and feel’ of the Games throughout the Park and sourcing a million pieces of sport equipment.

Next year the UK is celebrating The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

In June 2012, everyone across Britain will honour the 60-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II and Ulster Weavers will be rejoicing in the event too with our fabulous new Queen’s Diamond Jubilee ranges.

A new charitable Trust has been launched in honour of the special event and the Jubilee emblem design was chosen after a national children’s competition. The only other British monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee was Queen Victoria in 1897.

From this weekend until the end of August is the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the largest arts festival in the world.

For over 50 years Scotland’s capital city has seen a unique explosion of creative energy within the Fringe and it takes place for three weeks every year.

Thousands of performers take to a multitude of stages all over Edinburgh to present shows for every taste; from big names in the world of entertainment to unknown artists looking to build their careers. HISTORY

The event started back in 1947 when the newly formed Edinburgh International Festival was crashed by eight theatre groups, who turned up uninvited to perform. The initiative was created to celebrate and enrich European cultural lift in the wake of Second World War. Year on year more and more performers crashed the festival until 1959 when the Festival Fringe Society was set up in response to the success of the growing trend.

One year today the London 2012 Olympics will be starting!

Here at the home textile office we are super excited about the wedding on April 29^th 2011 between Prince William and future princess Kate Middleton.

Despite the fact that the day has been declared a bank holiday so we get a day off, the great news also brings delight in the fact that we have designed these amazing Kitchen tea towels as part of the royal wedding memorabilia.

Both Cotton Tea Towel designs are extremely different so you are bound to find one that suits your taste. We’re thinking you may not necessarily use it to dry your Sunday tea dinner plates but rather store it as a keepsake; and who knows, in a decade you might even make a few bob from selling it!
