Knitathon Raises £6k For Comic Relief
Monday, April 4th, 2011
A knitathon event in Coventry has helped to raise more than £6,000 for Comic Relief.
In an attempt to break the massive world record, hundreds of people gathered at Coventry Cathedral, in the West Midlands to generate money for the charity.
Some 699 knitters from around the UK took part to raise £6,128.57 for the charity; whose aim is a just world free from poverty.
It failed to break the Guinness World Record for the number of people knitting for at least 15 minutes; however, it did make a new record for the Most People Knitting for 20 minutes.
Currently, Sock Summit LLC holds the record for the most people knitting simultaneously. It involved 937 participants and took place in 2009.
Think of all the Tea Cosies you could knit with all that string? You could really make the most out of all that coloured thread with making clothing and even knit Egg Cosies for the kitchen too!
Tea parties are back in fashion and Ulster Weavers has tea and egg cosies galore in all shapes and sizes. Whether you prefer the more traditional style, or opt for quirky, each cosy makes a perfect gift and would really spruce up the kitchen for spring.
